Chains Of Love
Music: Cerbin/Cox   Lyrics: Cox

Another night
An eternity
Pleasure is pain
For his fraternity
Keeper of souls
A calamity
He pulls the strings
His inhumanity

She lays in fear
One eye open
Stories untold
Her spirit broken
Glimmer of hope
It won’t last her
Submissive lies
Serving her master

All of her branded emotions
Falling prey to his anger
Caught in the web of his fury
He’s the judge and jury

Another Day
An infinity
Control is key
For his divinity
Near or far
He’s an entity
Breaking her will
His insanity

She waits in terror
Eyes wide open
For his return
Horrors unspoken
It never ends
If you ask her
She plays the slave
Protecting her master

It’s the price she pays for love
At least she thinks so anyway
As he manipulates her mind
Devotion can be so unkind

She can’t even think what she….
She can’t even say what she….
She can’t even feel what she….
She’s wearing the chains of love

Another year
A ubiquity
Power is vital
To his sincerity
He leads the way
Such imparity
Setting the stage
His absurdity

She lives numb
In her prison
Terminal sadness
Endless submission
She’ll pay the price
With her life
She must remain
The devoted wife

She prays that he will change his ways
And grant her love’s salvation
But this is his kingdom come
And his will be done

She can’t even think what she….
She can’t even say what she….
She can’t even feel what she….
She’s wearing the chains of love

(Guitar Lead)

She can’t even think what she….
She can’t even say what she….
She can’t even feel what she….
She’s wearing the chains….
She can’t even think what she….
She can’t even say what she….
She can’t even feel what she….
She’s wearing the chains of love

1. Domestic violence is NEVER your fault.
2. Domestic violence is NEVER acceptable.
3. One phone call to someone who cares can  END THE VIOLENCE .

First, I would like to welcome you to our site. Thank you for taking an interest in Deaf Symphony's commitment to helping victims of domestic violence. We are also strong advocates in spreading awareness of this terrible plight, which plagues over three million victims annually — and these are only the reported incidents. Statistics show that another two million plus incidents go unreported per year.

The lyrics for Chains of Love were based on a situation that I was actively involved in some years ago. Despite all of the help and advice that myself, and others, provided to a woman trapped in a long-term abusive relationship, she was eventually killed by her estranged husband. I'll never forget the day that I received the news of her death.

Best regards,
Larry

The saddest part of that whole story, is that it did not have to end the way that it did. Awareness and understanding is not only key for domestic violence prevention advocates, but for the victims themselves. If you are a victim, and are reading this, understanding the following three statements can change your life:

For those of you who may not be aware, Deaf Symphony is a hard rock metal band. While it may not be your taste in music, I am sure that you will agree that the message of the song shines through loud and clear. Our genre of music has an enormous worldwide following, and the exposure and awareness to be gained through our advocacy is more than worth the effort. We are pleased to be able to bring this awareness to a whole other group of music fans. A large percentage of these fans are the children, teenagers, and young adults who have grown up in abusive situations, thinking that domestic violence is simply part of life — possibly even being first-hand victims of such abuse.

The lyrics to Chains of Love are not pretty. The music and vocal melody are hard-edged. However, the feedback from many prior victims of domestic violence, regardless of their preferred musical taste, affirms that the song captures all of the emotions, and realities, associated with domestic violence better than any other such type of song from other genres of music. I thank those of you for all of your kind words.
